BUS and truck drivers have been warned against carrying foreign nationals, without proper travel documents, to curb human trafficking.
The call was made by the police following the detention of 173 people, including minors, in Gweru and Murewa, on Wednesday.
In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said a Wosith Travellers Coach crew was arrested for alleged human trafficking after they were nabbed transporting 82 foreign nationals, who included minors, without travel documents.
“On Monday, police in Murewa arrested 86 foreign nationals comprising 76 males and 10 females, for entering the country without travelling documents,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
“The suspects were intercepted at a house in Murewa after being assisted by a local transporter.
“In another case, on Wednesday, Gweru rural police arrested a Wosith Travellers Coach bus crew for human trafficking after transporting 82 foreign nationals without travelling documents.”
Police detectives in Murewa on Tuesday arrested three foreign nationals, who were hitch-hiking from South Africa en-route to Nyamapanda, without following laid custom and excise procedures,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
