18 months jail for housebreaking

A MAN from Matobo has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for breaking into a house and stealing property worth over $4 000.Trinity Nyathi (23) stole from Mr Byron Van Vuren (34) of Hillside suburb.

Nyathi pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and theft charges when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Tancy Dube.

The magistrate sentenced him to 18 months in prison and three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.A further nine months was suspended on condition that Nyathi performs 315 hours of community service at Figtree Police Station.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that Nyathi restitutes Mr Van Vuren $1 190 before November 30.Some of the stolen property includes a laptop, a camera, bed covers, fishing rods and a pocket knife among other valuables.

According to court papers, sometime in August 2017 between 4PM and 7PM, Nyathi broke into Mr Van Vuren’s house through a window.While inside, Nyathi stole property worth $4 025 and left unnoticed.Mr Van Vuren later noticed that there had been a break in at his house and reported the matter to the police.

Investigations were carried out leading to Nyathi’s arrest. Property worth $2 835 was recovered.—@zinyuke98
