18-year-old rapes granny (85)

Bulawayo Bureau
An 18-year-old Silobela man who raped his 85-year-old grandmother has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The man from Rungu Village under Chief Malisa in Lower Gweru was convicted on his own plea of guilty by Gweru regional Magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire.

He will, however, serve an effective 12 years after Mr Nemadire suspended three years on condition of good behaviour.

The accused pleaded for the court’s leniency, blaming the devil for using shim.

Prosecuting, Mr Kelvin Guveya told the court that on May 16 this year at around 11pm, the elderly woman was sleeping alone in her bedroom when she heard someone knocking on her door.

He said she opened the door and the accused entered. The court heard that the accused grabbed his grandmother, ripped off her undergarments and raped her once before fleeing.

The complainant reported the rape to her neighbour and the following day she made a report to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest.
