$1m boost for Mutare Gen Hospital

NATIONAL Pharmaceutical Company (Natpharm) will allocate $1 million to Mutare Provincial Hospital to fund medical services at the provincial referral hospital.

This was announced by Natpharm chief executive officer Ms Florence Sifeku at the ground-breaking ceremony for a provincial drug warehouse. The warehouse will be funded by Natpharm in conjunction with Global Fund and construction is expected to start this month.

“The Ministry of Finance, through the Treasury, has settled the debt which it owed Natpharm since 2009. The money is about $24 million which will be paid in the form of Treasury Bills. From that money, we avail $1 million to Mutare Provincial Hospital,” she said.

Ms Sifeku said the hospital would receive the money in batches until the figure of $1 million is reached. She said other provincial hospitals across the country will benefit from the money.

“We would like to thank our Minister, Dr David Parirenyatwa, who worked tirelessly to push the Minister of Finance to settle the debt which started accruing in 2009. Natpharm is under the Ministry of Health and Child Care, so he is also our boss as well,” she said.

Natpharm also donated boxes of gloves to the hospital during the same event. Dr Parirenyatwa said the money will make Mutare Provincial Hospital one of the best referral hospitals in the country.
