THE Black Umfolosi charity show held in Plumtree last weekend to raise funds for a renal patient from the town to undergo a kidney transplant was a huge success as $2 000 was raised.
This brings to $7 000 the money raised so far for Hloniphani Mathiya (45) who has to travel to India for the surgery.
The total amount needed is $25 000 for Mathiya and his kidney donor, also from Plumtree, to travel to Asia.
The show was held at Plumtree Town Council chairperson Fanisani Dube’s Chicken La King Pub and Restaurant in the border town.
Dube, who is mobilising funds for Mathiya, said the show was a resounding success.
“The show went very well and it was indeed a huge success. We managed to raise $2 000 but we’re still far off the mark as we’re sitting at around $7 000 only,” he said.
Dube, however, thanked the people of Plumtree for supporting the cause.
“Our sincere gratitude goes to those who made time to be part of this fundraising initiative. May the good Lord bless them for their money will be put to good use and subsequently save a life,” he said. – @richadmuponde
