A TOTAL of 2 000 war veterans will be honoured with Independence Medals during this year’s Heroes Day commemorations, in recognition of their contributions to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.

Heroes Day is on August 11.

The medals will be presented through the respective Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution across the country.

Speaking during a Post-Cabinet Briefing in Harare on Tuesday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, said the initiative is aimed at acknowledging the veterans’ selfless service.

“The initiative seeks to honour the outstanding service and sacrifices made by war veterans during the liberation struggle,” said Dr Muswere.

The Independence Medals form part of the Government’s broader efforts to recognise and preserve the legacy of those who fought for Zimbabwe’s freedom.
