THE second edition of the Zanu PF Provincial Youth Games is underway at the University of Zimbabwe, timed to coincide with Munhumutapa Day and President Mnangagwa’s birthday celebrations.

Games chairperson and Provincial Youth Deputy Secretary for Mines and Energy, Councillor Tarusenga Mushininga, said he was pleased with the turnout and used the occasion to wish the President well.

“I am happy and grateful for the numbers we have seen, and I want to say thank you to President Mnangagwa, Happy Birthday our President, this has been a great way to celebrate our leader’s birthday,” he said.

Provincial Youth League chairperson, Cde Emmanuel Mahachi, said organisers were using the games as a platform to fight drug and substance abuse among young people.

“We are happy the youths have come forward as we use this time to educate about the dangers of drug and substance abuse,” he said.

BoysDzaMdara national spokesperson and First International Ambassador, Cde Tawanda Shanya, said the event was doubling as a talent-scouting exercise for the party.

“We are grateful that through this event we can be able to see the talents within our youths which we can nurture and develop as a Party,” he said.

The games span five codes – korfball, football, handball, basketball and volleyball – and will close with an entertainment programme once all categories have concluded.
