2 Byo teams take part in national cricket league

BULAWAYO will have two teams in the second edition of National Premier League cricket (NPL), which kicks off on Sunday.

Amakhosi and Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) will represent the province in the 10-team competition.

The other teams that will take part in the competition are Gladiators, Harare Kings, Takashinga Patriots 1, Takashinga Patriots 2, Westside, Nortonians, Lions and Great Zimbabwe Patriots.

A total of 45 matches will be played over a month, with the side that finishes top of the standings winning the NPL trophy and prize money.

The NPL is designed to revive domestic cricket structures and to identify emerging talent around the country. It was launched by Zimbabwe Cricket in 2020.

Opening fixtures will see Nortonians play host to Takashinga Patriots 1, while BAC are on the road to face Westside.

Amakhosi will clash with Takashinga Patriots 2 at Kwekwe Sports Club, while Gladiators and Great Zimbabwe Patriots will square off at Masvingo Sports Club.

Takashinga were the winners of the inaugural NPL, a 45-over club competition.
