violence to corruption.
The disciplinary committee being headed by national chairman Mr Lovemore Moyo is said to be finalising its findings before the party’s primary elections expected next month. MDC-T national spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora said those who were brought before the disciplinary committee included senior officials and councillors.
He said those found guilty would be penalised in line with the gravity of their offences. “As we speak, there are about nine people from the party’s top leadership who will be brought before the disciplinary committee,” said Mr Mwonzora. “These people are facing charges ranging from inciting violence and showing behaviour that soils the flagship of the party as a whole. In the event that one is found guilty, the party will charge them accordingly.
“The guilty will either be suspended or expelled from the party. So far, we have about 20 people with cases who are before the committee, with some of them having already appeared before the hearings.”
Although Mr Mwonzora refused to disclose the names of those lined up for prosecution, party insiders said Ms Thokozani Khupe and Mr Gorden Moyo were among the accused following allegations that they were masterminds of the violence that rocked the party’s congress in Bulawayo in 2011.
