Modern city on cards

facility with capacity to handle wide bodied aircraft, Tourism and Hospitality Minister Walter Mzembi said preliminary architectural plans for the new city were in place.

He said the modern city would not disturb the “old Victorian” setting of the existing city. The land on which the city would be built was initially set aside for the construction of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation conference facilities expected to take place in August.

“The new city will not interfere with old ‘Victorian’ city in order to avoid conflict with legacy interests that have accorded this destination its natural wonders status,” said Minister Mzembi. “But we are certainly going to close the infrastructure gap between the status quo and our aspiration to develop.”

Minister Mzembi said the new city would be modelled alongside the Niagara City in the United States. “We want to be able to capture the imagination of the young demographic groups that easily get bored with green settings of the current Victora Falls,” he said.

New hotels, casinos, theme parks and modern entertainment concepts would be part of the development.
