Woman jailed for intercourse with boy (15)

A 20-year-old woman from Kurima Village in Goromonzi was last week jailed for 10 months for being intimate with a 15-year-old boy and infecting him with a sexually-transmitted disease.
Martha Gombera was initially handed 12 months’ imprisonment, but two months were suspended for five years on condition she does not commit a similar offence during that period.
Murewa magistrate, Mr Chiedza Gatsi presided over the case.
Court records show that Gombera and the teenager became friends in November 2015, later becoming lovers after she had proposed to him.
In early December that year, Gombera went to the boy’s residence and taking advantage of his parents’ absence, started caressing him in the kitchen.
The two then became intimate on a number of occasions until May 2016, when the 15-year-old’s father discovered that his son was having difficulties walking due to a venereal disease, and this was confirmed at the local clinic.
The boy spilled the beans, resulting in Gombera’s arrest.
Although she pleaded not guilty, the court convicted her on account of overwhelming evidence.
Mr Robert Pfeka prosecuted.
