2011 Agricultural Show preps on course

local and 12 foreign exhibitors expected to participate this year.
This is an increase from 750 local exhibitors that took part last year.
This year’s event will run for nine days from August 19 to 27. Zimbabwe Agricultural Society marketing and public relations manager Mrs Sibonginkosi Muteyiwa said they were happy with the increase in exhibitors this year.
“Preparations for the annual event are underway with over 1 000 exhibitors having signed up to exhibit in this year’s edition. The improvement in the number of exhibitors can be attributed to our rebranding exercise,” she said. This year’s edition will be held under the theme “Celebrating Agricultural Growth and Promoting Green Business” and will be mainly focusing on celebrating wealth acquired in tobacco and cotton sales.
The “green business” aspect of the theme is meant to raise national awareness to the need to conserve the environment.
“We want organisations to be responsible in terms of preserving the environment,” she said
Mrs Muteyiwa said the entry fees were affordable for the public as children will pay US$1 and adults US$2.
She added that quite a substantial number of companies that had not been exhibiting for more than five years are back and these include local banks TN Bank, CBZ and POSB.
The official opening will be on August 26 with scheduled performances by Suluman Chimbetu and Oliver Mtukudzi.
