Pupils get US50 cents as teachers gobble millions

OVER 3 million primary and secondary school pupils are receiving US50 cents per capita grant termly from Government with  the bulk of US$469 million allocated to the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture being gobbled by salaries and allowances.

The Education Ministry was allocated US$469,367 million in the 2011 budget.
Deputy Minister of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture Cde Lazarus Dokora on Wednesday, told Parliament that the US$1,50 per pupil per year was compromising the quality of education.
This means out of the whole budget, about US$4,5 million
