Retention allowances for lecturers scrapped

GOVERNMENT has stopped paying retention allowances to lecturers at State-run polytechnics and colleges effective from  last month.
The lecturers had been getting US$100 as retention allowance since 2009 which has since been replaced by a “production policy”.

The lecturers claim the new policy requires them to do menial jobs to get extra-payment.

HARARE City Council has acquired 5 000 new water meters in a move aimed at curbing the theft of treated water and boost  revenue collection.

Harare Water director Engineer Christopher Zvobgo yesterday said the city was losing almost half of its 650 mega litres of potable water through theft, pipe bursts and leakage through corroded water pipes.
