Victor “Coach Rambo” Kazembe has paid tribute to the Zimbabwe National Army School of Physical Training Sports and Black Rhinos Swimming Club for equipping him with skills that enabled him to save lives.
This has ultimately earned him national recognition after recovering three bodies from a sewer pond in Harare’s Budiriro suburb recently.
Kazembe made the remarks on Saturday at Enterprise Car Sale while collecting a Toyota Fortuner GD6 2.4D gifted to him by businessman, Mr Wicknell Chivayo, in recognition of his bravery.
He was accompanied by 49 bikers who each received US$1 000 from Mr Chivayo.
The bikers had also accompanied him earlier when he collected a Toyota Aqua before Mr Chivayo upgraded him to the Toyota Fortuner.
Addressing supporters, bikers and members of various organisations, Kazembe expressed gratitude to the institutions and people who shaped his journey.
“Once again, thank you Zimbabwe National Army School of Physical Training Sports, Black Rhinos Swimming Club, all the presidents of bikers, all bikers who are here,” he said.
“Any individual biker, thank you so much for sacrificing your time to come here. In the meantime, I’d like to introduce the team.”
Kazembe said the support he received from those around him was deeply appreciated.
“I look at it today, your presence means a lot to me,” he said.
“You know, you took your time to be here. All of you, you have something that you would be doing today, but you sacrificed that and said you have to go and support Coach Rambo, the lifesaver.
“I humble myself again. Thank you everyone for coming.”
Kazembe used the occasion to encourage young people to remain disciplined and committed to their ambitions, saying success was attainable through consistency and perseverance.
“To the young people who are here today, let this be a reminder that dedication, hard work and perseverance always bear fruit,” he said.
“I repeat again, the young people here today, let this be a reminder that dedication, hard work and perseverance always bear fruit.
“Stay focused on your goals and respect those who guide you and never stop believing in your dreams.”
Kazembe shot to prominence after bravely recovering three bodies from a sewer pond in Budiriro, an act that attracted widespread public admiration and prompted Mr Chivayo to reward him with a vehicle in recognition of his selfless service.
The latest handover ceremony also turned into a celebration of unity as bikers, coaches and supporters gathered to honour a man whose life-saving work has earned him recognition across the country.
