Nurses threaten to strike

GOVERNMENT health workers are set to join their counterparts from the civil service in striking should a meeting scheduled with the Health Services Board next week fail to yield positive results.
In a statement issued after a meeting held in Harare on Thursday, team leader Mrs Regina Smith said health workers are demanding a raise in salaries, housing, transport and other allowances peculiar to health workers only.

Dismissed council employees appeal

FIVE Gweru City Council employees who were recently fired after participating in a strike pushing for their outstanding salaries in December last year have appealed to senior MDC-T party officials to be reinstated.
The five, Mr Silas Mutendeudzwa, Mr Cornelius Selipiwe, Mr Simbarashe Liboo, Mr Rabson Kilimboi and Mr Kudakwashe Munengiwa were fired about two weeks ago for their part in a strike in which more than 43 council workers participated.
$1m needed for sewer infrastructure provision

ABOUT $1 million is required to finance the provision of sewer and water infrastructure at Maphisa Growth Point in Matobo district to pave way for the construction of 600 houses.
In an interview yesterday, Matobo Rural District Council chief executive officer, Mr Earnest Ndlovu, said there was a huge demand for housing stands at the growth point but said council could not provide stands without adequate sewer and water infrastructure.

More cracks found in Airbus A380 wings
Paris — Airbus insisted its A380 superjumbo is safe to fly after another set of cracks was discovered in the wings of the world’s largest jetliner , though an engineering union said it was downplaying the issue and some Asian airlines said they would develop inspection programmes.
It is the second time in as many weeks that hairline cracks have surfaced inside the mammoth double-decker jet, which entered service four years ago, and their discovery is expected to lead to expanded safety checks.
