Deputy Minister Mudzingwa dies

TRANSPORT, Communications and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister and MDC-T non-constituency Senator Tichaona Mudzingwa has died.
He was 69.
MDC-T said in a statement yesterday that Sen Mudzingwa died at The Avenues Clinic in Harare on Tuesday night after a short illness.
“Senator Tichaona Mudzingwa, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development and former MDC’s Secretary for Defence and Home Affairs, has died,” the party said.
“A medical doctor and Zimbabwe’s first specialist war surgeon, Dr Mudzingwa died at The Avenues Clinic last night after a short illness.”
Sen Mudzingwa, a close ally of MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, was born on December 23 1942 in Buhera.
A founding member of MDC in 1999, Sen Mudzingwa held a number of positions in the party.
He was the MDC-T secretary for defence and home affairs in 2011.

Road fund bosses rapped

THE Zimbabwe National Road Administration blew over three times what the law allows it to spend on itself in 2010, the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor-General has said.
The appendix to the draft audit report for 2010 noted that Zinara was allowed, under the Roads Act, to spend 2,5 percent of the money it collected for the roads fund on administration, but it spent 8 percent.
This cut the amount it could spend on roads.
The law expects Zinara to spend at least 97,5 percent of what it collects in tolls, vehicle licence fees, fuel levies, overload fees and transit coupon fees on maintaining and extending Zimbabwe’s road system.
The Auditor-General was particularly concerned that this overspending was done without the written authority of the parent ministry, that of Transport, Communications and Infrastructure Development.
