THE year 2013 belongs to the revolutionary party Zanu PF especially in Masvingo Province, a senior official has said. In a telephone interview, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Masvingo Cde Kudakwashe Bhasikiti said the Zanu-PF leadership in Masvingo deserved recognition following the party’s triumph in the July 31 harmonised elections.
The revolutionary party swept all 26 National Assembly seats in the province thereby condemning MDC-T and other parties to the political dustbin.
“The year 2013 was unique both for the country and Masvingo in that the party Zanu-PF and President Cde Robert Mugabe were mandated to continue leading the nation for another five-year term. We won convincingly throughout the country but for Masvingo what made our victory sweeter is that we reclaimed all seats that had gone to our erstwhile friends in the MDC-T,” he said.
Cde Bhasikiti, who is also Mwenezi East National Assembly member, said people of Masvingo realised their mistakes after voting for the opposition in previous elections.
“People in this province corrected the mistake they were making over the years by voting for Zanu PF in 2013. The opposition members failed to bring positive change into people’s lives and this time people refused to be taken for a ride,” he said.
In the previous elections in the province, MDC-T had won 14 seats while Zanu-PF had only managed to hold on to 12 seats. The party turned the tables in the July, 31, 2013 harmonised elections.
Cde Bhasikiti said the province had a potential to experience tremendous economic growth in 2014 if the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) is fully implemented.
“Once the province adopts the ZimAsset and all businesspeople appreciate the blue print, there is great potential for us to experience phenomenal growth in 2014. The New Year has great things in store for the province. The completion of Tokwe- Murkosi Dam will address a number of developmental challenges in the long term,” he said.
