Schools defy Govt on fees
Chronicle Reporters
SOME schools in Bulawayo, Gweru and Masvingo yesterday defied a Government directive and sent pupils home for non-payment of school fees as schools opened for the first term.
This is against a Government directive that no pupils should be sent home for non-payment of fees and the High Court in 2011 declared such action illegal.
Justice Maphios Cheda declared sending pupils home for non-payment of fees illegal and abuse of authority.
A survey conducted by Chronicle at most schools in Bulawayo and Gweru showed that most schools had sent pupils home for non-payment of fees.
