A SECOND suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a South African man who was reported missing last week, with investigators saying the hunt for two more suspects is continuing.
In a statement issued on Thursday, South Africa’s Tshenolo Private Investigations said the latest suspect, a woman, was arrested on Thursday on a charge of murder after she was allegedly captured on surveillance footage using the deceased’s bank cards with another individual following his death.
The arrest follows the apprehension of the first murder suspect on Monday, a day after the missing man was found dead.
According to Tshenolo Private Investigations, the victim’s family sought the company’s assistance on July 23 after he went missing, prompting an intensive investigation involving private investigators, intelligence specialists and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The firm said it immediately deployed its investigative resources and enlisted additional support from Orion Strategic Intelligence.
The joint investigation, involving Tshenolo Private Investigations, Orion Strategic Intelligence and SAPS, led to the discovery of the missing man on July 25. He was, however, found deceased.
Investigators said the case gathered momentum soon afterwards, leading to the arrest of the first suspect on July 26 and the second suspect on July 30.
Despite the latest breakthrough, investigators said the probe remains active, with two more suspects still being sought.
“Tshenolo Private Investigations and Orion Strategic Intelligence are fully committed to ensuring that every individual responsible is identified, traced, arrested and brought before the courts,” the company said.
The investigators pledged to continue pursuing every lead and working closely with law enforcement agencies until all those responsible are brought to justice.
Tshenolo Private Investigations commended Orion Strategic Intelligence for providing specialist intelligence support that it said strengthened the investigation.
The company also commended SAPS detectives from Brits in North West Province, Atteridgeville in Gauteng and Polokwane in Limpopo for their professionalism and swift action in acting on intelligence that led to the arrests.
It further acknowledged members of the public who provided information that helped identify suspects and advance the investigation, saying community cooperation was instrumental in the progress made so far.
The company extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, expressing hope that the arrests would provide some measure of comfort as investigations continue to bring all those involved before the courts.
