A suicide bomber threw a grenade into a police station in a suburb of Turkey’s largest city Istanbul and then blew himself up, killing one police officer and wounding at least seven other people, officials say.

A leftist armed group group claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack in a statement published on a website close to the group, a senior security official said.

Work on capital projects across the country has come to a standstill as Treasury is yet to release funding, a Cabinet Minister said yesterday.

In an interview, Public Works Minister Gabbuza Joel Gabuza said contractors were still waiting for payment of millions of dollars in outstanding bills accrued last year.

Zinara struggles as motorists renew vehicle licences

 

HUNDREDS of motorists yesterday flooded Zimpost offices in Bulawayo to renew their vehicle licences amid reports that the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration is struggling to cope with the pressure of issuing new vehicle licences amid revelations that their system was down.

Licences expired at midnight on Thursday, 31 January.

As early as 7am, long winding queues were observed at Zimpost offices in the city centre, Belmont and Famona.

In separate interviews, motorists said they came as early as 5am in order to be served first.

The incident occurred in Southview suburb on Monday at the funeral wake of Tatenda Dick, an Ordinary Level pupil at Chaplin High School, who had died the previous day from a terminal illness.
