Government intends to abolish the death penalty, with plans already afoot to push for debate on Constitutional amendments to end death by hanging in line with international trends to do away with capital punishment, a Cabinet minister has said.

Boy (16) arrested for carjacking
Police have arrested a 16-year-old Dzivaresekwa boy after he allegedly stole a Honda Fit he had hired at Chitubu Shopping Centre in Glen Norah. The suspect was arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) for theft of motor vehicle as defined in Section 113 (a)(i) of the Criminal law (Codification and Reform Act) Chapter 9:23. CID spokesperson Detective Inspector Portia Chinho confirmed the arrest.

Govt starts retiring youth officers
GOVERNMENT has started retiring 3 384 youth officers as part of the civil service reforms announced in the 2019 National Budget and in line with its Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP). In a statement, Public Service Commission Secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe said the retirement criterion was based on one’s requisite qualifications to be engaged as a public officer.
