Waste collection centre for Mbare

Government has taken the national clean-up campaign to another level as residents are now encouraged to separate waste for recycling, with Mbare, in Harare, becoming the latest targeted suburb to get a waste collection centre, Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira has said.

Probe Mutare City Council workers, ZACC advised

THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) should investigate Mutare City Council officials and bring to book those who were involved in underhand land deals, auditors who carried out a forensic land audit on council have recommended.
According to the report, council management, which was under former town clerk Mr Obert Muzawazi, was involved in underhand deals in land allocation, prejudicing the local authority of thousands of dollars in potential revenue.

Addressing stakeholders during the inaugural Masvingo devolution conference here last week, Chief Charumbira said devolution and traditional leaders were inseparable. He said chiefs were the custodians of culture.

‘Illegal miners a threat to city water system’

MASVINGO City Council has expressed concern over rampant illegal gold mining activities around the Target Kopje Hills. In an interview on Friday, town clerk Mr Adolf Gusha said the artisanal miners’ blasting activities were detrimental to the water and reticulation facilities and several properties near the area.

Chibaya trial set for Wednesday

The trial of MDC-Alliance national organising secretary Amos Chibaya, who is being charged for inciting violence, has been set for Wednesday. Chibaya, who is being represented by Mr Reginald Chidawanyika of Chitere Chidawanyika Legal Practitioners, appeared before Gweru provincial magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa on charges of contravening Section 187 (1) (a) (b) of the criminal codification and reform Act Chapter 9:23.

Matemadanda implores youths to shun violence

Patriotic youths should desist from engaging in acts of violence and should emulate President Mnangagwa who is always preaching peace, a Politburo member has said. Addressing hundreds of mourners at the burial of the chairperson of Children of Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association Cde Sophia Moyo at Mutasa Cemetery in Gweru last week, Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs Cde Victor Matemadanda said engaging in violence was tantamount to sabotaging gains of the liberation struggle.
