Locally-based writer, entrepreneur cum gospel singer Letty Gavhure Chawira, is shooting videos of her album Second Chance in South Africa. Her songs are receiving favourable airplay in the Diaspora.
The DVD album is being shot by local film director and script-writer Willard Magombedze (Slimaz)
The 10-track album, which was launched late last year, features award winning musician Reverend Chivaviro, Zaza and Ifeanyi. It has songs like “Zvakadaro”, “Verenga Zvikomborero”, “Tichengete”, “MaTesimony” and “Ndirangarirei”, among others.
Chawira, well-known for standing and fighting for gender rights, said all wasn’t rosy in foreign lands and local promoters should put female musicians at the forefront.
“I am happy with the DVD shooting so far. My aim is to do videos for all songs. My album was inspired by societal settings and Bible verses,” she said.
The third album was produced by Prosper Makonese of Promark Studios.
Chawira who said she grew up listening to Baba naMai Charamba and added that female musicians deserve a chance in the development of the arts industry.
“My role model is Baba naMai Charamba whom I grew up listening to. I am also planning to shoot in Zimbabwe as well so as to market my country,” she said.
Chawira said she named her album “Second Chance” because not many people know that even if you have done a mistake or miss something, you should not give up rather try again.
“To me the album is for women, no matter what obstacle, always fight back and realise your dreams. My songs symbolise our power as female gospel musicians that cry too much for platform and space to showcase our talent but we are left outside,” she said.
