AS dawn broke yesterday, the grand show started at OK Mart in Hillside, Harare.
The latest edition of the OK Grand Challenge roared into life.
First, there were the vehicles, lots of them.
They made a bee line from OK Mart in a journey that took them through the heart of the capital, into Bulawayo Road and, finally, to OK Marimba, where the opening bell was rung.
Then there was the fun – the drum-beating entertainers. When the procession finally rolled into OK Marimba, it was time for some serious business.
OK Zimbabwe chief executive, Max Karombo, thanked shoppers for helping the Marimba branch to increase its sales.
“We have decided, for the first time, to conduct our official opening at a place where our shoppers are because of good sales recorded at OK Marimba,” said Karombo.
“We want to thank Belvedere, Warren Park, Kuwadzana, Westlea and travellers, along Bulawayo Road, for believing in our rock-bottom prices across the 52 OK stores nationwide.
“Every year, Zimbabweans look forward to this iconic promotion.
“OK Zimbabwe’s overarching purpose is to make happiness tangible by planting smiles on employees, customers, suppliers, shareholders and the community that they operate in.”
Karombo said OK Zimbabwe would give back to the community through its adoption of St Giles and putting smiles on the faces of people in the community it operates in. The OK Grand Challenge promotion runs from yesterday to June 3 when the horse race is held at the Borrowdale Racecourse.
It has become one, if not, the biggest retail promotional vehicle in the country.
