Treasury defends transit fuel tax

THE new import duty for fuel tankers in transit, paid on entry and refunded on exit, was necessary to curb the abuse of the electronic cargo tracking system, the Permanent Secretary for Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Mr George Guvamatanga, said yesterday.
