THE 2026 Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival has burst into life at Harare Gardens, with 10 of Zimbabwe’s finest traditional dance ensembles competing for the coveted national title and a US$15 000 grand prize.
The annual festival, organised by Delta Corporation through its flagship Chibuku brand in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA), has drawn performers and cultural enthusiasts from across the country’s 10 provinces.
The winning group will walk away with US$15 000, while the first and second runners-up will receive US$10 000 and US$7 500 respectively.
Representing Matabeleland South is Bolamba Culture Birds, while Bulawayo is represented by Ezimnyama Dance Ensemble. Matabeleland North has fielded Amakhosikazi Dance Ensemble.
Other contestants are Shingai Dance Group (Harare), Dapuraunanzva Arts Ensemble (Manicaland), Marondera Gure Club (Mashonaland East), Pisa Pisa Nyau Club (Mashonaland West), Dzimbahwe Nengoma Dance Ensemble (Mashonaland Central), Chipolopolo Nyau Dance Group (Midlands) and Mutimurefu School of Arts (MUSA) from Masvingo.
Beyond the energetic performances on stage, Harare Gardens has been transformed into a vibrant celebration of Zimbabwean culture, with festival-goers taking part in traditional games that have added to the festive atmosphere.
Attendees have been reliving childhood memories through indigenous games such as tsoro and pads, creating a family-friendly environment that celebrates the country’s rich cultural heritage.
The festival is expected to conclude with a star-studded after-party headlined by Jah Prayzah, supported by Baba Harare, Nisha Ts and Chillspot Records duo DJ Fantan and Levels.
The Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival remains one of Zimbabwe’s premier cultural events, providing a platform for preserving and promoting the country’s diverse traditional dances while rewarding artistic excellence.
