205 drivers up for culpable homicide

in 315 fatal accidents that were recorded countrywide.
During the same period last year, 386 people died in 309 fatal accidents recorded. Police said the 205 drivers were still under investigation and were expected to appear in court soon. In June last year, at least 396 drivers were charged with culpable homicide after being involved in accidents that killed 630 people during the first four months of 2012.

In 2011, 564 drivers were charged. A total of 552 people were killed in road accidents in 2011.
Some of the drivers were convicted while others have pending cases at the courts. Last year, 10 895 accidents had been recorded by June with 5 171 people being injured.
