21 000 quelea birds destroyed in Masvingo

As Government intensifies efforts to protect the wheat that is being harvested, a total of 21 000 quelea birds have been

destroyed in Masvingo Province.

The Agricultural and Rural Development Advisory Services (ARDAS) weekly report indicates that quelea bird reports were

received from Manicaland, Mashonaland Central and Masvingo.

Authorities are on the ground putting measures to protect the crop.

ARDAS said surveillance is ongoing in all provinces.

Farmers have harvested nearly 22 153 hectares of wheat with an estimated production of 114 751 tonnes as farmers intensify

harvesting ahead of the summer cropping season.
