A 21-year-old Bulawayo woman is admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment following violent assault attack and stabbing by her husband over a marital dispute.

Andrew Mhlanga (27) of Pumula South suburb allegedly stabbed his young wife, Tatenda Muchauri, twice on her right thigh, once on the back, and once on the vagina accusing her of leaving their house and going to her maternal home following a heated argument.

Mhlanga appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze facing charges of attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody to October 2 while waiting release of a medical report.

Prosecuting, Ms Christina Manyika told the court that on August 17, Mhlanga had a misunderstanding with his wife at their home in Pumula South.

The heated argument led Muchauri to leave for her maternal home in Old Magwegwe.

On August 20, after noticing that his wife had not returned, Mhlanga went to the Old Magwegwe house where he found her alone.

He allegedly assaulted her with fists and ordered her to accompany him back to their home in Pumula South.

Upon arrival, Mhlanga reportedly continued assaulting his wife, kicking her in the stomach several times with booted feet. He then went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed her twice on the right thigh, once on the buttock and once on the vagina, the court heard.

Muchauri sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where she is admitted and receiving treatment.

A police report was made, leading to Mhlanga’s arrest.
