21st Feb Movement preps on course

George Maponga in Masvingo
Preparations for the 21st February Movement celebrations set for the Great Zimbabwe Monuments in Masvingo are well on course.

The celebrations’ national co-ordination team led by Zanu-PF secretary for Adminstration in the Youth League Cde Lewis Matutu toured the venue on Thursday.

Cde Matutu and his team had earlier on met the Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial leadership led by acting provincial chairman Cde Ezra Chadzamira and the State Occasions Committee chaired by provincial administrator Cde Felix Chikovo to share notes.

Cde Matutu said his team was satisfied with progress. He called for parties involved in the organisation of the celebrations to work in unison and prepare a grand stage that will enable Zimbabweans to celebrate President Robert Mugabe’s life.

“We’re happy with the developments that are taking place here on the ground in preparation of President Mugabe’s birthday celebrations that’ll take place inside the Great Zimbabwe Monuments,’’ he said.

“The national co-ordination committee is impressed with the direction preparations are going and the input that is coming from all the stakeholders who are involved. Our goal is for Masvingo to host a unique event that will forever remain etched in the memory of Zimbabweans,’’ he added.

“We just wanted to have a sample of the state of hotels in Masvingo to make sure our delegates will be catered for in terms of accommodation. That’s why we’ve gone to Ancient City Lodges near Kyle Dam, Chevron and Flamboyant Hotels in the city. We already know the other hotels. We also dispatched another team to tour the venue because some of the people in our team have never been there.”
