NORTON Town Council has urged informal traders operating from undesignated sites to comply with municipal by-laws and obtain permits to operate legally.
The call was made during a 2027 pre-budget consultative meeting with informal traders held by the local authority today.
Norton Town Council security officer Mr Denboy Chigwegwe reminded vendors of the Government directive requiring all vendors and informal traders operating from undesignated sites to vacate by Wednesday last week.
He said council had market by-laws governing legal vending and urged traders to approach the local authority for permits and designated operating spaces.
“You just approach council and get an application form with which one can apply for a vending stall and pay an annual fee of US$30. Council will then go through the forms and give the vendor a permit and a designated site to operate from,” he said.
Mr Chigwegwe said council had already started enforcing the regulations against traders who were operating without the required permits.
“Norton Town Council will heed the council directive, although we had already started the exercise to see that those without council requirements leave the vending sites,” he said.
