About a quarter-million women have successfully undergone free cervical cancer screening since 2017 as they continue to respond positively to Government’s drive to curb the malignant disease.
Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Gerald Gwinji said 220 957 women were screened in the 2017-2018 period.
“A total number of 119 468 were screened in 2018 and 101 489 in 2017, showing a positive response from the women at large,” he said.
It is believed that cancer is curable when detected early.
Since last year, First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa (pictured right) has been actively encouraging women to undergo free cancer screening. Breast and cervical cancer are some of the major diseases that affect women.
