Organisers of the 23rd National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) ceremony will officially unveil nominees on Wednesday, thereby ending weeks of anticipation.
Following the excitement generated around this year’s edition, which is scheduled for Harare on March 31, event organisers have promised numerous surprises.
The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), in partnership with the Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (JCMC), is behind the awards ceremony.
NACZ communications and marketing manager Agga Nyabinde confirmed the developments.
“The nominees for the 23rd NAMAs will be announced on February 12 at 10:00am on Facebook (@NAMASZim) and YouTube (NAMAs),” he said.
“We will announce the venue along with the nominees.”
As part of the festivities, Nyabinde assured fans that they will be treated to an exciting awards ceremony.
He also indicated that a new dance group has been assembled to participate in the event.
“In terms of vending, we invited vendors willing to set up stalls as this year’s event will have a different seating arrangement.
“We are also offering opportunities to those who want to sell beverages and food, but they will be vetted to ensure quality,” he told The Herald Arts.
His counterpart, Tinashe Kitchen from JCMC, stated that preparations are well underway.
In explaining the theme for the event, Kitchen said, “We want to showcase our vision for what the local arts sector will look like 100 years from now.
“Our images, our red carpet, and our presentation for the awards will celebrate all these elements and more.”
The organisers also spoke about enhanced efficiency, transparency and fairness in the adjudication processes.
NACZ boss Napoleon Nyanhi assured fans that NAMA will continue to be decentralised to ensure that no one is left behind.
