THE country’s boxing representatives in the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games will headline the Bulawayo Amateur Boxing Association(Baba) bill set for Manor Hotel tomorrow.

Ndodana Ncube, Nelson Mutsvairo, Marembo Herbert Rumbidzo, Perkins Chingono, Lancelot Moyo, Dignity Ncube, Emmanuel Katsaruware, Spencer Mhuruyengwe, Temba Nkomozabo, Andile Ncube, Samsom Masiyambumbi have made it into Team Zimbabwe for the regional Games that will be held in Bulawayo from December 5 to 14.

Baba vice-chairman Ezwell Ndlovu said they are expecting at least 25 bouts, the same number of fights that they had a fortnight ago at Lobengula Hall.

“We are now looking at the final stretch in as far as the December African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games are concerned. The bill that we are holding at Manor Hotel is the last Baba organised event of a successful 2014 season before the mega Youth Games showpiece. We urge boxing lovers to come in their numbers for Saturday tournament so that they mix and mingle with the country’s boxers for the December Games,” said Ndlovu.

Five out of 12 African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games bound boxers – Nkomozabo, Dignity, Masiyambumbi, Andile and Katsaruware – participated at the Zimbabwe Amateur Boxing Association’s national championships held at Lobengula Hall.

Nkomozabo of Masvingo won on points against Gwanda’s Shepherd Ndlovu in a flyweight bout with Katsaruware proved too strong for Ncube who he beat in a bantamweight fight.

Masiyambumbi fought Andile of Tshaka who he beat on points in a tightly contested lightweight fight.

Some of the pugilists expected at Manor Hotel tomorrow are Masvingo’s Petros Machokoto, Melody Jarabaza of Gweru, Steven Ndlovu and Gweru’s Prince Carter.

Assurance Moyo of Lobengula, Masvingo’s Peterson Machinjike and Prince Masona are also expected to trade leather in tomorrow’s tournament.

Ndlovu said Zaba will be on the lookout for the seniors who are in the running for next year’s All-Africa Games to be held in Congo-Brazzaville.
