WOMEN in the Midlands Province have gained new opportunities for economic empowerment through the Second Republic’s rural industrialisation drive, spearheaded by Zanu-PF Women’s League.
The women recently received a donation of a 3 600-egg hatchery, aimed at uplifting livelihoods across the province.
The Women’s League is playing a leading role in this initiative, providing livelihoods and starter packs to women’s groups throughout the Midlands. The programme is set to benefit thousands of women, enhancing their economic prospects and contributing to national development.
Speaking during the launch of the Midlands Women Empowerment Programme in Gweru, Zanu-PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomona, emphasised that socio-economic empowerment is central to the Second Republic’s vision and a critical component in achieving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030.
She reaffirmed the party’s commitment to women’s empowerment as a pivotal element of its development agenda.
“Women are vital to the country’s economic growth, despite the challenges they face. The party is actively implementing women-centred, transformative projects across all provinces, aligned with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030,” she stated.
Cde Chinomona also highlighted that the Women’s League is intensifying efforts to empower marginalised communities in the Midlands. She noted that the hatchery would particularly benefit women, who have not yet received poultry chicks to start their projects.
“Women, this is your time. We must contribute to realising our country’s vision through dedication and hard work. Vision 2030 is not just a slogan — it’s a call for inclusive economic growth,” she said.
Zanu-PF Midlands Province Chairperson, Cde Tsitsi Zhou, praised the empowerment initiatives, noting that they would not only improve household incomes but also foster resilient communities.
“We commend the Second Republic for walking the talk post-elections. These efforts will significantly improve livelihoods in our communities,” she said.
Meanwhile, Honourable Owen Ncube, Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, expressed confidence that government-supported women’s empowerment projects will bolster inclusive development, especially in rural areas.
He applauded the Women’s League for its role in transforming local communities.
“We are encouraged to see women actively participating in projects that uplift both individuals and the province. This initiative will positively impact our Gross Domestic Product. The government remains committed to supporting such efforts,” he said.
Beneficiaries from the province’s eight districts showcased various empowerment projects, reflecting the tangible impact of the Women’s League’s initiatives.
Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, viewing it as a significant step towards economic independence.
One woman shared her optimism: “I have learned how to operate this incubator, and I am thankful for what the Second Republic is doing for us women. The hatchery will help us hatch eggs, expand our poultry pass-on scheme and work towards prosperity,” she said.
