THREE people were killed during the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays, while 10 were injured, in 106 accidents.
Police said there had been a decline in the number of deaths compared to last year.
During the same period last year, 20 people died and 24 were injured in 157 accidents.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi, attributed most of the accidents to human error.
“The police have noted with concern the number of fatal road accidents recorded during the 2022 Heroes and Defence Forces holidays,” he said.
“A comprehensive analysis by the police revealed that most accidents are attributed to human error, which include speeding, inattention, misjudgement, reversing and overtaking errors.
“The ZRP appeals to drivers to be responsible and observe road rules and regulations.
“It is sad that motorists are overtaking and speeding in situations which are clearly not safe to do so.”
Meanwhile, Ass Comm Nyathi named the five victims of a road traffic accident that occurred at the 33km peg along the Harare- Masvingo Road of August 6.
“The five victims have been positively identified by their next of kin as Nyaradzo Mugadza, a female adult aged 49 of ZRP Chikurubi Camp, Harare, she was also the driver of the Nissan Note vehicle,” he said.
“Simbabrashe Murapa, a male aged 44 of Kuwadzana Extension Harare, Gwenhere Tsitsi, a female aged 47 of ZRP Chikurubi Camp Harare.
“Mapikure Denis, a male aged 40 of Hatfield Harare and Ethan David Chiyangwa, a male juvenile aged five of ZRP Chikurubi Camp Harare.”
