a culvert, overturned and caught fire at the 58km peg along Beitbridge-Swereki Road on Saturday.
Acting police spokesman for Matabeleland South province, Sergeant Thabani Mkwananzi yesterday said the bodies of the three were taken to Beitbridge District Hospital for a postmortem. He said efforts were still being made to identify all the victims, adding one of them had only been identified as Challenge Nare.
Sgt Mkwananzi said the accident occurred at around 5am.
“The Isuzu pickup truck was travelling from Beitbridge towards Swereki with three people on board. Upon reaching the 58km peg, the vehicle hit a culvert before landing on its roof.
“It then caught fire and burnt all the occupants and the vehicle was also extensively damaged. A report was made to police who subsequently conveyed the charred bodies to Beitbridge District Hospital mortuary pending a post mortem,” he said.
Sgt Mkwananzi said investigation into the matter were underway. The incident comes a few weeks after three other people were killed along the Beitbridge Masvingo Road when a Harare bound cross border bus they had been travelling on was involved in a head-on collision with a haulage truck.
