A family from Bulawayo’s Nguboyenja suburb is desperately seeking financial assistance to enable the treatment of their three-year-old son, who has developed what is suspected to be cancerous cells on his face.

Mbongiseni Ncube developed a soft tissue tumour on his face in November last year, and his parents are unable to afford his hospital bills.

His father, Mr Likhwa Ncube, has appealed to the public to assist in covering the medical expenses for the young boy.

“We took him to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he was then referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare for further examination,” he said.

“Since 10 February, Mbongiseni has been receiving care at Parirenyatwa Hospital, where doctors are yet to conduct tests to determine the cause of the tumour, which is suspected to be cancerous due to our financial limitations.”

Mr Ncube, visibly emotional, explained that he is struggling to raise the initial US$300 required for doctors to conduct tests on his son.

The boy’s face is severely swollen, and the illness is said to be ‘eating’ away at part of his face. Mr Ncube added that the family is also facing additional financial strain as his wife, Mrs Nhlonipho Ncube, is currently in Harare looking after their ailing son.

“We have two other older children, and this situation has made life even more difficult. The money I earn as a messenger is not enough to provide for the family and cover medical expenses,” he said.

“My wife is unemployed, so we are reaching out to the community for help. Our son’s health is our top priority, and it breaks my heart to see him suffering while we are unable to help him.

“We are appealing for financial assistance. At this stage, we do not even know the total amount required, as tests have yet to be conducted. We just want to ensure he receives the necessary treatment.”

Mr Ncube said those willing to assist the family can contact him on 0776240745.–@DubeMatutu
