3 years gone: The agonizing wait for Lincoln (12)

LOSING a loved one is painful, but having a place to lay them to rest can bring some comfort.

However, for the Sibanda family in Mbare, the pain is unbearable as their firstborn son mysteriously disappeared in 2022 and has never been seen since.

On 12 January 2022, Lincoln Sibanda vanished without a trace, and three years later, his fate remains unknown.

He was only 12 years old and in Grade 6 when he disappeared.

To this day, the little boy has not been found, and there is no clue about his whereabouts.

Lincoln disappeared on a Tuesday morning, which was a holiday.

The family has done everything possible, seeking assistance from the police and prophets, but all efforts have been in vain.

The police’s sub-aqua unit searched water-logged areas but found no evidence.

His father and family members have now placed everything in God’s hands.

Speaking to this publication, Lincoln’s father, Leo Sibanda, said they have lost hope of ever reuniting with their son.

“We live in Mbare, and I am Lincoln’s father.

“He is my firstborn, and we don’t even know where he is. We have tried everything.

“The police have done their part, but there is still no clue about his whereabouts,” he said.

The incident happened during the holiday.

“It was a holiday on a Tuesday morning, and they had gone to play football at maboozer, near Malawi Bar in Mbare.

“It was sugarcane season, and apparently, one of the boys saw others eating sugarcane and suggested they go and cut some from a nearby area.

“The situation is tricky because no one is giving clear information.

“The people who were there can’t even explain what happened.

“From what I heard, they were friends, and there were about 11 of them,” he said.

The father said they have exhausted all possible means to get answers about their son’s disappearance.

“We have searched everywhere and tried everything.

“But from what I heard, the woman who owns the sugarcane field allegedly chased the boys away.

“We reported the matter to the police and even visited her home, but nothing has helped.

“The police’s sub-aqua team searched the area, hoping to find something, but they found nothing.

“We thought maybe he drowned, but after thoroughly searching the place, there was no trace of him.

“For now, we have left everything in God’s hands. As human beings, we can only do so much,” he said.
