THE Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) have launched investigations into bags dumped near Amakhosi Service Station along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road.
A team of officials from EMA and BCC visited the site to investigate the contents of the bags and establish who could have dumped them.
The area near where the bags were dumped has been turned into an unofficial truck stop by long-distance trucks.
EMA Environmental Education and Publicity Officer Ms Kayleen Dube confirmed the developments.
Ms Dube said the contents of the dumped bags appeared to be sawdust.
“We are at the site with BCC officers. Contents in the bags look like sawdust. There is no one on site to assist us with information, but we have gathered that the bags were here as early as 5am, which means this must have been done at night,” she said.
Authorities are tasked with investigating such cases to prevent harm to the environment from potentially harmful substances.
