AT least 300 Chegutu community members who underwent two-week life skills training courses organised by the Zanu PF district coordinating committee (DCC) are set to improve their lives in line with Vision 2030.

The community members learnt detergent formulation and conbaking skills through the Tonganyika Trust in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Science and Technology Association at the invitation of Chegutu District Council.

The National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1) emphasises human capital development.

Beneficiaries expressed high hopes of transforming their lives from the new skills adding.

The women who were volunteers irrespective of political affiliations, received certificates which will help them to access loans to boost their entrepreneurial                                                                 skills.

“We are expecting to open our companies with our own brand names that will grow and compete with other known brands,” said 21-year-old Dorothy Muchekazi.

“I can now bake, make soap. Through the skill, I am going to produce and sell in the community and sustain my family. Let us promote President Mnangagwa’s leadership which is uplifting the lives of women,” said Ms Esnath Mombeyarara.

Zimbabwe Science and Technology Association chief training officer, Mr Noel Gonese said the programme has been received well in the district, with the target to train three remaining constituencies on course.

“We have managed to train more than 300 women in Chegutu West constituency. We are expected to do the same in Norton, Chegutu East and Mhondoro-Mubaira constituencies,” he said.

He added that all the seven districts were earmarked to receive the training as conducted in Manicaland and Matabeleland North provinces.

Said Chegutu DCC chairman, Cde Brian Chinyama: “This project aims to uplift our communities, it is meant to capacitate women and men in line with Government development objectives, we are training soap-making or detergent cosmetics formulation which includes foam bath, washing powder, soap bars, dish washing liquid, sanitisers, engine cleaner and also hotel and catering specialising on baking.

“This has a positive impact in our Chegutu admin because its going to revive our manufacturing sector. For example, in countries like China they have a better life because their people are taught life skills in manufacturing.”

Zanu-PF acting provincial chairman, Cde Abia Mujeri said those who had been trained could go in groups and acquire loans.

“This is what President Mnangagwa wants, a starving people are difficult to lead.

“As Zanu PF, we are going to win elections resoundingly. We are not only after winning, but supporting communities through life-changing skills,” he said.
