Kindercare supports cancer patients

KinderCare Zimbabwe has moved in to provide mental health services to children suffering from cancer as part of efforts to lessen the burden on them and their parents.

On Sunday, KinderCare organised a visit by the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Tamer Almassri, to the Children’s cancer unit at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where they donated various goodies and toys to the children.

The visit was in support of childhood cancer month, which is held in September every year to raise awareness, funding and support of childhood cancers and the impact for sufferers and families.

Speaking during the tour of the cancer ward, Kindercare executive director, Dr Faith Nyamukapa, said it was important that children suffering from cancer be supported with resources to keep their minds busy.

“We work with children in Zimbabwe and our main aim is to support their mental health and social being. In the month of September we were saying cancer diagnosed children were the ones on our heart so we raised awareness of such diseases and we offered our support and we mobilised gifts for those children,” she said.

“Children need care, they need our love irrespective of age so within these boxes of gifts, there are boxes of love.

“Even as they (the children) are on the bed, they need to read, they need to catch up on their studies. Sometimes they cannot speak but they can write so we brought those resources as well.”
