A TOTAL of 32 Bulawayo-based pool players were selected to be part of the country’s provisional squad that will contest at this year’s edition of All Africa Pool Association (AAPA) competition in South Africa from 7 to 12 May.

Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) publicity secretary Farai Nyandoro said the provincial qualifiers were held in the city on 30-31 March where eight men and eight women were picked to be part of the Fish Eagles provisional line-up.

He added that the rest of the team members made automatic qualifications into the squad following their top-drawer performances at different organised tournaments.

“We are happy that we have managed to come up with 32 pool players that are now part of the provisional Fish Eagles team. It is the automatic entries that took the selected number of players from Bulawayo to 32. It was after our qualifiers that we picked eight men and eight women,” said Nyandoro.

The final qualifiers meant to further select members of the national team will be held at a venue and a date yet to be announced.

Zimbabwe played host to the games in 2017. That was the first time for Zimbabwe Pool Association (Zipa) to hold such an event as the pool fraternity sought to gain more professional relevance.

In 2016, the AAPA contest was held in Uganda. Zambia also once played host to the event.
