RENOWNED songstress, actress and dancer Sandra Ndebele says she has no plans to hang up her microphone or dance shoes anytime soon, crediting the continued support from fans for keeping her motivated.
The Bulawayo-born artiste reaffirmed her commitment to music after delivering a high-energy performance at the Munhumutapa Musical Gala held in Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central, on Tuesday night.
Known for her energetic stage performances, powerful vocals and distinctive dance moves, Ndebele has remained one of Zimbabwe’s most recognisable female performers, building a career that has spanned music, theatre and dance.
Affectionately known as Sandy, she first made her mark at Mpopoma High School in Bulawayo in 2001, where she was involved in theatre, music and dance with renowned performance group Iyasa. She spent several years with the group before embarking on a solo career that would establish her as a household name in Zimbabwe and beyond.
Her debut album, Tshaya Tshaya, released in 2003, proved to be a major breakthrough, with the hit Mama Mama propelling her into the national spotlight and onto radio charts alongside some of Zimbabwe’s biggest musical names.
More than two decades later, Ndebele continues to command attention on stage, with her performance at the Munhumutapa gala once again showcasing the energy and charisma that have become synonymous with her brand.
Speaking on the sidelines of the gala, Ndebele said the love she continues to receive from fans gives her little reason to consider retirement.
“The support that people continue to give me gives me assurance to say that I am not retiring soon. The musical gala was beautiful. The music was welcomed well and the future is brighter for more music releases and more projects,” she said.
