AT least 35 000 households in Chipinge District have so far received maize seed for the 2018 /19 cropping season under the Presidential Inputs Support Scheme.
Manicaland provincial agricultural extension officer, Mrs Phillipa Rwambiwa, told The Herald that farmers had started receiving inputs under the programme to enable them to properly plan their activities ahead of the season.
“President Mnangagwa has made it clear that farmers benefiting from the 2018 /2019 Presidential Input Scheme should access their inputs early.
“This will allow the farmers to plant with the first rains, which enhances their chances of getting good yields that are crucial for boosting food security in Zimbabwe,” she said.
Mrs Rwambiwa said another 25 293 households had also received Compound D while 1 884 had received Compound C with 2 400 getting Ammonium Nitrate and 1 972 receiving soya bean seed.
Each of the beneficiaries received 10kg of maize seed and two 50kg bags of fertiliser — one for Compound C and the other for Compound D.
Mrs Rwambiwa said the programme had also started in the rest of Manicaland’s seven districts that included Mutare, Nyanga, Makoni, Buhera, Chimanimani, Chipinge and Mutasa.
