I am sure that 2013 will always be a special year for me. It is not just the year in which I completed my junior schooling, it is also the year in which I aced the public Grade Seven exams! Yeah! I got four units and I am simply excited, delighted, feeling awesome, special and other words I cannot describe. It feels great to have my parents, teachers and everyone else congratulating me.
I was a pupil at Selbourne Routledge Primary School. I enrolled at the school in 2006. I have always been proud of my school, even though you sometimes hear people say that only private schools and colleges are good.
They say that teachers at public school are lazy and only want money for extra lessons.
They also say that public schools have too many kids in each class with no books. Selbourne Routledge is a Government school. But I know that it is a very good school. The teachers all work hard and the parents also make sure that children have books.
When the Grade Seven results came earlier this month, my heart beat like thunder because I knew that it was time to see what I had achieved. I was expecting to do well, but I really wanted brilliant results.
I used to hear some relatives saying that whenever the Ordinary or Advanced Level results are announced, those who would have sat for the exam will have butterflies in their stomachs.
They forget that Grade Seven pupils too will have the same feeling because this is an important stage. This is the first public exam that you ever take after more than seven years of preparation.
And passing will give you the confidence to go on with your education. Failing can destroy your life.
You do not want to disappoint your parents, your teachers and yourself.
So imagine my feelings when my results came and I had a perfect score. I am happy that I obtained four units and I owe all this to my teacher Mrs Kaisi.
Commitment and dedication were my secret to success. At school we used to study hard.
At home my parents set aside two hours of study then afterwards I would go and play.
I disagree with parents and pupils who say Government schools are not the best, for my school is a good example because we had a 99 percent pass rate. 10 of us had four units, five girls and five boys.
The primary school environment was friendly and I hope my new school — ZRP High — will be the same because I need to continue getting a good education as I would like to be a medical doctor.
Thank you everyone at Selbourne and I hope that the class of 2014 will do just as well.
