A new UN report says more than 40 people have been killed in the capital city of the Central African Republic since former President Michel Djotodia stepped down last week.
The office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said Tuesday that Djotodia’s resignation on January 10 has failed to reduce violence in Bangui and elsewhere.
“More violence, killings and looting have also been reported in other parts of the country in recent days,” The UN human rights office said in Geneva. The UN, however, added that the number of clashes has decreased slightly, reflecting hopeful comments by interim leader Alexandre Ferdinand Nguendet that “the pillaging and the chaos are over”.
Nguendet heads the national council that will pick a new interim president for the country by the end of next week. — Press TV.
