THE 4x400m relay team is through to the final at the African Senior Championships at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.

Organisers advised Zimbabwe after call room procedures that there would not be any heats and semis after six countries entered the race.

Coach Phakamile Lisimati confirmed on Saturday night.

With the preliminaries off the way, the coach believes his 400m runners may have been spared more time to recover.

The team has Thandazani Ndhlovu, Gerren Muwishi, Leeford Zuze and Dennis Hove. They are national record holders with a time of 2 minutes 59.01 seconds, finished fifth at the world relays and have qualified for the 2027 World Championships to be hosted by China in Beijing.

They will face Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria in what promises to be an explosive final.

Ashley Miller is taking part in the 400m hurdles.

The Zimbabwe team yesterday had the third sprinter pulling out of the 200m.

Young Methembe Tshuma broke his femur in a freak incident soon after false starting in the 200m semis.

Meanwhile Denzel Siamusialela ran the fastest 200m by a Zimbabwe’s this year with a time of 19.98 seconds in college athletics in the US. He had earlier run a 10.03 seconds in the 100m.
