50 open accounts with Women’s Bank

At least 50 women in Mashonaland Central last week successfully opened accounts with the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank, as an empowerment gesture by zanu-pf candidate for Mazowe North, Cde Campion Mugweni.

About 180 women are set to benefit from the pledge by Cde Mugweni to assist them by facilitating the opening of their accounts in a move that is meant to bring inclusivity of marginalised communities on the national development agenda.

President Mnangagwa launched the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank last week, which is expected to offer loans to women.

In an interview recently, Cde Mugweni said the majority of the people in rural areas were usually left out from the national development agenda, yet they were the ones in serious need of Government initiatives.

“Numerous Government initiatives rarely impact on the lives of marginalised areas, which are in fact the ones in most need of Government’s assistance,” he said.

“The majority here are usually discouraged to participate since they lack the know-how of doings certain things like opening a bank account.

“Mazowe North has 18 party districts. I am taking a group of 10 women from each district to make them 180 whom I will supply with transport, food and assist them to open their accounts with the recently opened bank.

“We have managed to take care of about 50 women whom we paid for their transport and deposit fees and they successfully opened their accounts with the new bank, an initiative which I would like to believe is the first in the province
“In many parts of the constituency, the only income-generating projects done by youths are farming and gardening hence if they benefit from this new initiative by President Mnangagwa, they will be able to start projects like broiler keeping.”
Cde Mugweni called for other members of the National Assembly to assist their constituencies.

“I also want to urge other MPs, especially in this province, to assist their communities, thereby championing equal inclusivity of all areas since numerous national projects tend to benefit those in the cities who have easy access to current affairs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Cde Mugweni donated over 100 litres of detergents used in manufacturing dish washers and toilet cleaners to women in Bare, Chiweshe, as a foundation to their income generating projects.
Cde Mugweni also donated two wheelchairs and medicine to Bare Clinic.
